No offense, but I wouldn't describe this as a rational explanation. In this situation, the team with the ball typically decides to either utilize the remaining time to get in a position to score or play ultra conservative, take a knee and get into the locker room to prepare for the second half. Neither of these would have surprised me. Given the fact that we were behind and kicking the ball away to start the second half, I thought maybe a pass or two to even attempt a FG might be in order, but alas...

To think they used to refer to CLM as the Riverboat Gambler.

Look, I'm not saying it was the best course of action but I get the purpose of the safe play with 3 seconds.
