Why not spend the money you could splash on one big starter for three good vets for the bullpen? That's what they need while they continue to sort out the young arms who can potentially start long-term.
Let's say Keuchel and Jabroni are legit. Appel seems on track to reach the rotation soon enough. There are other options who need MLB starts to determine if they are legit. Let that play out another season.

I agree. Put the money towards the best bullpen money can buy. Make some trades if necessary. But eliminate the black hole in the bull pen and actually put some talent there -- this club has a whole new attitude.
And a legit dominant closer will do wonders for the club. It would allow Qualls to stay in the 8th inning - where he excels. You lock down 8th and 9th innings -- the rest of the pen becomes easier to manage.
If you're Luhnow, do you try to bring back Fat Alberst and Crain? (can you even call it "bringing them back"?)
