Did this board ever discuss The Great Gatsby soundtrack?

My search turned up empty, but it did come out a little while ago.
Maybe it's because I'm beyond a certain age, but I was just so distracted and disappointed by the soundtrack on many levels.
Gatsby is a quintessential "period novel". How/why would you mix and mash different eras in a period movie? If they had tried to make a more modern version of the movie, the music would have made more sense.
Secondly, the music often didn't match the mood of the film, IMO. They seemed to randomly pick tracks for different spots in the movie.
Third, some of the music was just not good. That's a matter of taste, but taste doesn't address the first two points.
I'd love to hear other opinions, especially contradictory ones. Thanks.

Personally, I thought the music was on point with the mood of the scenes they were in.

I have nothing to contribute. I liked the music. Baz Luhrman is kind of known for mixing new(ish) songs into his movies set in different times. ie: "Romeo and Juliet" and "Moulin Rouge".

I liked it. Big band music and the party music of the time means nothing to me. I recognized the rap/beats to equal a party.

The soundtrack was to make it moulin rouge like and also to appeal to a larger audience. I think it worked.

I also liked the soundtrack. The Lana Del Mar song was very well used.
Too bad Baz Luhrmann fricking sucks.

People have discussed it and bitched about it but I dont see why.
Django unchained had rap in it and people didn't seem to mind it.
No reason to dislike the music in The Great Gatsby either.
