I've heard of people burning up the specs there. Where exactly is it and what time of year do you fish it?

Winter and very early spring when they are running the power units. Best bait is free lining finger mullets real close to the rocks in the canal.

Only one I know of personally is Bayou Bievineau(sp) and as to times, no idea. Yat should know that area for sure.

Yep. Here's what you need to know.
You will be surrounded by a dozen other boats.
If you catch a fish, the other boats will invade your space.

If you have live or even fresh shrimp you will reel it in boiled and pink.... Not kidding.

Fished there many times back when you could walk in and fish the banks. On COLD days soft plastics was the bait. I'm talking really cold days...

Closest launch is Bienvenue, but it is doable from the Chef or Seabrook as well. I come from the Chef area. It's across the GICW from where the MRGO intersects it. It is best after a couple good cold fronts have pushed the fish into a fall/winter pattern.
I use plastic cocohoes sweetened with mkt bait, usually bounced on the bottom. I've had luck at other depths too.
I've had some good meat hauls from there, but I don't enjoy that spot unless it's during the week. Way too many people go there on cold weekends.

Talking about the canal behind Michoud? We have caught some apecs in there. But I have also caught quite a few sharks out of there.
