BCS didn't kill it.
It was dead far before that.
Cotton Bowl has been a joke my entire lifetime...back to the mid-80's.
It's heyday was the 60's/70's but died just like the Peach Bowl
From late 80's - early 90's on...it was...
1. Rose Bowl
2. Orange Bowl
3. Sugar Bowl
4. Fiesta Bowl
It was dead far before that.

The demise of the SWC didn't help. It used to get the SWC champ every year.
