I will never apologize for berating a teenager, especially when I can use the "We're just joking, bro. It's okay if you don't like it." excuse. It's clearly not okay. I just think it's hilarious how now we're in a place where people like that may face some sort of pushback.

Obviously, my people are always going to be a bit more passionate because I genuinely love and live and breathe the sport. I have 2 monitors on my computer, and one is always playing a match, rewatching an older match, or listening to coverage. If I need the other monitor, I've got a laptop open or I'm listening to podcasts (mainly Men in Blazers). That shite rubs off on people. My girlfriend takes no enjoyment from watching any other sport on Earth, but she loves watching matches with me. Hell, if we got married and had kids, I have the okay to add player references in the names if I wanted (which I'm still trying to figure out the best one to go with since Jurgen or Zlatan may get my kids picked on).

All of the support, interest, and people like us coming to a board regularly to talk about it shows how far we've come just from this team in 2005. The fact that we even have this board and it's as active as it is on a site like TigerDroppings is astounding. I still remember so well the MSB soccer threads. The push to get this board and support it is possibly my favorite memory from this site (outside of that night that the guy rage quit on the OT by posting porn until they banned him and didn't get banned for hours). As cheesy as it sounds, I feel like we all fight the good fight just by coming to places like this board, being active, arguing, and just being fans because it creates a pretty rad culture for the sport in America. That culture growing is what appeals to people. The soldiers of those earlier teams, even the mid to late 2000 teams after the 2002 run, have done insane things for the sport here.

Alright, I'm done with the emotional bullshite. All of this 9/11 and patriotism have me reminiscing pretty hard right now.

I used to be hesitant to get into debates with the soccer haters, but discussing the issue with others here who have invariably faced the same thing for YEARS has given me plenty of ammo to push back, as you say. Not trying to be an OT-style badass, but I've stopped giving a shite about offending people and will call them out on their immature, anti-soccer bullshite. Also, any time the "if Lebron played soccer we would win every world cup" argument comes up, I destroy it in about 5 seconds. It's funny to see the lights come on mid conversation in someone who never realized that Adrian Peterson playing soccer in the US setup of the past 10 years = Eddie Johnson.
