I'm new here, first post in fact. Someone on the main BYU message board posted a link to one of the threads discussing the Cougars in light of our Texas beatdown, subsequent debut in the polls and mention in early chatter about the CFB playoff picture.
I have enjoyed most of your comments - with the exception of Zamoro10 who has been feeding you all a bunch of lies and nonsense BYU fans are well accustomed to from those who choose to go the religious bigotry route.
First, the EASY correction. He states BYU is 0-3 versus Boise. FACT: we CRUSHED the Broncos 37-20 last year in Provo in a game that was even more lopsided until we started subbing in on defense in the second half. We are, in fact, 1-2 vs BSU.
His assertion that the PAC12 passed on us because they perceive us as NOT being a research school is partially correct, though not provable because the PAC12 Presidents have never and could never go on record with something like that. There would be too much political backlash. So they used the "good fit" metaphor.
BYU might not be a research institution, but Zamoro10's assertion that nothing of substance happens at BYU except ancient scripture study and examining the teachings of former LDS (Mormon) leaders Joseph Smith and Brigham Young (WHO, by the way, was ALSO the founder of the University of Utah, before BYU. Interesting how the PAC12 overlooked that little tidbit, isn't it?) is just plain ludicrous.
BYU's MBA program is usually ranked in the Top 5-10 programs in the nation. It's Law School comes in between 25-40. The broadcast program is one of the Top 5 nationally, as is the advertising department, which created the Allstate Mayhem and Doritos Superbowl ad campaigns.
I could go on & on with BYU's academic resume, but this IS supposed to be a football discussion board. I simply wanted TigerNation to hear facts and not nonsense from someone who obviously has a personal ax to grind with BYU and/or the Mormon church.
Thoughts about BYU football. We are excited to be back in the national discussion since our glory days under legendary coach LaVell Edwards when we won the 1984 National Championship, a Heisman Trophy and a Doak Walker Award, 2 Lombardi Awards, and fielded dozens of All Americans including a couple of Superbowl winning QBs named McMahon & Young.
Is our schedule watered down this year? Absolutely, but it is what it is, just like it was in 1984, and we will play the hand we have been dealt schedule-wise and let the chips fall where they may at the end of the season. We are pretty pleased about crushing Texas for the second straight year. We are 3-1 against them and 2-0 against Oklahoma, so maybe they wouldn't want to see us every year in the BIG XII? Just sayin.
We would LOVE a chance to get down to SEC country more often and play you guys. It would be a terrific barometer for our program. We have only played 'Bama, Ole Miss, MSU, Missouri, A&M and Georgia and would like to expand that list of SEC opponents.
Have a great season. As one who personally loathes Alabama, let me just say GEAUX TIGERS...LAISSEZ LES BON TEMPS ROULEZ!!!
