Has purdue really turned into that big of a dumpster fire? They are getting manhandled.

Yes.

Over the summer, I watched the local paper for anything they had to say about the team. There was essentially nothing positive -- some neutral things, a lot of "they'll have to get better in this regard", a lot of "so and so had a good practice considering... (considering it was early, considering it was late, considering he was banged up, considering considering, considering excuses)"

But the most telling was whenever the team got another commitment. It wasn't "also recruited by OSU and Notre Damn, and Illinois", it was, "also recruited by Western Kentucky and Kent State".

Purdue is gonna be a dumpster fire for the next several years, maybe until the end of football as we currently know it. I don't blame the coach; it's just the way it is.

ETA: on reflection, 'dumpster fire' is a little strong. It applies to Purdue's status in the major program group, but I think Purdue would be a nice middle-of-the-pack MAC team, so not actually truly horrible.

And Purdue is capable of picking up genuine outlier players once in a while -- Brees, Alstott, Colvin, etc. When they get 2 or 3 at the same time, they can look pretty adequate, even good.
