It is his jam. I support every version I've heard of it. Ever. Luther Dickinson does a mighty fine version too.

Hear My Train a Comin' is a top 3 song for me.

When I hear it, it always sounds like the song he was trying to make perfect.

Like he was never happy with it.

Red House is special, and is a favorite of mine. But it almost seems like something he thought up one day while everyone was hungover and sleeping on the chitlins circuit. Almost a frick you to those guys who were headlining.

Hear My Train a Comin' sounds like something that he wanted to be known for, like this IS what defines me as a blues guy. The other stuff puts me into a box, but here's where I really shine.

He was playing this song at 24, as best I can see. The earliest recording I've heard is the BBC sessions of '67.

24, guys, think about that.

He was 24. At that point the music was driving him. He was unleashed.

At 24 I was in a band pounding out power chords.

The older I get I'm amazed at his understanding of things, especially considering he picked up a guitar at 13.

10 years later he's completely changing everything.
