Would I then have to set a static IP address for the access point router if I disable DHCP?

You'd have to go into the 2nd routers setup and tell it to get its IP via DHCP /or/ just set a static one while you're there.

You can do that or just let it float. Asus provides a discovery utility to find the DHCP-assigned IP address of the router.
