I live in LA and entirely agree with this.

The sand can't hold a candle to the Gulf Coast beaches (much less the Bahamas), as they have the consistency of mud. Moreover, people let their dogs poop in the sand constantly, making it even more disgusting. Large sections are just completely paved over.

Also, pollution from LA city storm and sewage drains is dumped right into the ocean. Even if the water wasn't freezing, it wouldn't be smart to swim in.

The only nice thing about LA beaches are the cliffs around Rancho Palos Verdes . Otherwise, I tell people to go to San Diego or stick to a pool.
