Usually titles tell you what threads are about (except on the OT), and you can choose to read or not read them.
Being on the OB helped me buy some weapons. I approved of gun threads and gun discussions.

that is true, but when a theme becomes so prevalent on a board for which its relevance is only tangential, it becomes problematic for the functioning of the board.
