In fact unless the 130 is already on target 9 times out of 10 the JTAC is calling in the AWT for CAS in a JAAT with A-10s. That was my experience in Mountain warfare in RC(E).

The new AC130W used to be called the MC130, its design is for urban environments. The AF didnt replace the 105 on all airframes, just adapted to the current threat. Both are still in the inventory.
