There is no doubt in my mind that the robbery was a seminal event in the shooting - whether the cop knew the details or not. Brown certainly knew that he had robbed a store and strong-armed the clerk just moments before and must have suspected he was being detained for that offense. Hence his attitude and actions to either intimidate the officer or over-power him to get away.
While this may be an example of over-zealous law enforcement, the overwhelming blame for this tragedy rests with the criminal.
