Bussey is just north west of Bastrop. It was a big impoundment made by the paper mill in the late 60's to use as part of their water supply. When I was a kid the fishing was hot as hell. Over time it went down hill but remained a pretty decent perch lake. Then recently the mill closed and I guess as a trade off for totally frickin up a hugmoungous wetland known as Wham brake, IP donated Bussey and Wham to the state. Now the state has it drained and plan to make some more boat lanes, clear some stumps and whatnot, flood and restock it. It should be a good deal, they just don't seem to be in much of a hurry to get started on it.

It's a shame really. By the looks of it, it will be another 20 years before Bussey is back. That lake was incredible for catching 5 to 8 pound bass back in the 80's. Zara Spook over the grass or bumping buzz baits against the stumps -- good times.

A fellow I used to work with was from Monroe area and always talked about fishing and duck hunting on Wham Brake in the 1950's and 1960's. Sounded awesome.
