I've not hiked that particular trail, but I've hiked in the area, and trails are generally well marked and easy to follow.

Also, another thing I am worried about is phone service. I've read that there's basically none, which would suck arse with me being out there likely 3 days, because I need my phone for multiple things, especially if something were to happen. Will I get service (AT&T), and are there spots to camp that I will get service?

Why not take the opportunity to ditch the electronics for a while? You might like it. Connect with nature instead of whatever's on your phone. If you're worried about getting lost or having a mishap, go with someone more experienced or get more experience yourself before going solo. If you need to be available for other reasons, delay your trip until you can be out of the loop for a few days.

You didn't ask for my opinion, but staying tethered to the outside word is the wrong way to experience the outdoors.

I'd just like to be able to send a text to a few people at some point as well. Even if I am just saying "Hey, I'm fine".

It's not that I will be on my phone the whole time, because I am absolutely not like that. I will be out there to enjoy it, but would like to have reception of some sort for emergencies, and to be able to communicate, at least some. If there is one part on the entire trail that I can get service, that would be fine with me.
