Yes it has. And the US and Russia are not the only two players in this potential showdown. There is, for instance, China. There is North Korea. There is the Islamofascist world out there, centered maybe in Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Afghanistan - or maybe not particularly centered anywhere. But out there.

And then there is this one thing that is within the scope and range of a lot of these other players, who may choose to line up against the USA in a Russian conflict - nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) LINK. We may have all the technology in the world, but if one of these EMPs goes off in certain stategic areas, all communication and most military technology is shut down for the foreseeable future. Out on the battlefield, this would not be a really great thing for our side. Here at home, it would be catastrophic.
