The third game against Oakland, our offense was unstoppable but our defense was just as nasty. Our corners and safeties were playing well together and our line was playing nasty. This is when I felt we were a super bowl team, not just a contender.
This is when I knew. My friend and I still talk about that day as the day we fricking KNEW we were good.
So I guess what I'm looking for this year is a Game 3 fisting just for old time's sake.

I've thought about it some more: here is what I will be watching to see improvement
Wide Receivers
O-Line
Running Back
Kenny V and Byrd destroying motherfrickers would be great, but that's just lagniappe.

1. No crucial season ending injuries
2. Offensive pass-run balance
3. Discipline & Focus: in the 2009 preseason, the Saints looked like a well-oiled machine in mid-season form with minimal mental errors (ex: false starts, offsides penalties, too many players in the huddle, late hits, fights after the whistle, redzone holding or PI penalties, etc...)

They were kind of stagnant on O, which is to be expected, against cincy and Houston...but yeah, I don't recall penalties being an issue.
They were in mid season form by game 3 though. I would love to see that again.
on paper, this may be the best team we've ever had.

I harped on the kicking game because I feel like the outcome in the Seattle game in the playoffs could have been different.
Graham missed two FG's and we lost by eight.
Hartley PISSED me off last year but he did kick the game winners against the Bucs and 49ers also. But you can't ignore that he was 22-of-30 last year which can't be good. Not for a pro kicker.
I'm not worried about Morestead at all.
42.3 average punting the ball, fricking stout.
he also tied for 4th in the league with 52 touchbacks on kickoffs.
need more from the punt return team though.
and when we can, be a little better in kickoff returns. I mean there are more touchbacks so that makes it a little harder for them to contribute.

More on that run-pass balance.
Seems like every year we made a significant run in the playoffs, the Saints had over 2000 yards rushing ('06, 09, '11).
The other years seem to average around 1500 yards or less with more disappointing playoff exits or no appearance at all.

Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.

2011 we were any variable you want to choose from being in the super bowl
However, in 09 we were any ONE variable from not even being in the super bowl
I can make a great case that we wouldn't have won the super bowl that year if not for Usama Young

I would love to see that but I'd rather be formidable than a bend but don't break turnover machine ala 2009. Who says you can't have both?
Posted on 8/7/14 at 2:04 pm to DelU249
Nobody.
I want a defense than can clamp down anywhere on the field AND produce turnovers.

Lol, let's hear it. My only fading recollection of his play that year was the TD he gave up in the Super Bowl.

we were playing the rams late in the season...early in the game they were driving and about to score...Young picked off a pass that was a sure TD, if not, they were sure to score...we won the game by 5
had we lost, we wouldn't have had HFA, Minnesota would have, I don't think we beat Minnesota in their place.
No Super Bowl
(that is my super condensed version) and roby also had a KR for a TD in that game...no roby, no super bowl
