a huge stadium renovation when all the money comes from private donations
Do you think it's nuts that our athletic department can collect so many more "private donations" than the university itself?
Sure, at the end it comes down to people's personal priorities.... where they want to put their dollars. That's more or less what I'm getting at. People care more about athletics. They just do.

So what's the problem? Athletics at LSU improving and making more money only means positive things for the University itself.
You must be a nerd or something

quote:Nah, i don't really see it as nuts. The athletic side of LSU connects with more people than the academic side. People that didn't go to LSU will donate to the athletic side because it is their connection to LSU. This is a larger group of people than alums that will donate to both or just academics.

Plus the academic programs that produce for LSU don't have much trouble getting what they need. In tough economic times sacrifices must be made. I would rather the majors that aren't producing go without or be cut. It is better to make sure that business, engineering and the like can function.
Overall though the LSU funding problem is a issue that is a state issue. LSU can't get a proper budget for a flagship because we have so many colleges that are taking money. We need to merge or drop some of them.
