On the weekend will be much easier than during the week, obviously! Te rail was designed to bring people to NRG years ago for the Superbowl. Just trust me here!
Strangely enough, I've only ridden it once and that was to MM Park.
Where is the best place to catch it from downtown? (Preferably somewhere near Lucky's)

I don't think I'd want to leave my car at Lucky's until after the game. For one, it's about a 15-minute walk from there to the nearest rail station at Main Street Square station. Then after the game, which if you stay until the end you might not get back until after midnight (there might be a wait in line to get back on the train after the game), you'd have a corresponding walk back to Lucky's. Parking is free at street meters downtown after 6:00 p.m on Saturday, so I recommend parking your car anywhere on a fairly busy, well-lit street near one of the several rail stops downtown-midtown to make it easy to get to your car after the game. Don't leave anything visible in your car. If you're staying at one of the downtown hotels it's not really an issue. Street parking downtown near rail stops may be at a premium on Saturday evening. You could always pay for a surface lot or garage parking within a couple blocks of a station, but that may cost $5-$10.
