WTF? His point has everything to do with the original post of the thread. You just don't agree with his opinion.

This thread is about the number 18. He doesn’t have a problem with the tradition of awarding a player with a number that holds special significance. He merely questions the choice of the number: 18. Why 18?

I actually think it was one of the more brilliant moves by Miles. The “tradition” could have caused serious problems until Miles co-opted the whole thing. Honestly, it was a brilliant move by Miles to appropriate an idea that could have sowed dissension and turn it to his advantage.
