the way black churches blatantly flaunt electioneering restrictions, that conservatives would favor this.
Reading between the lines you are acknowledging that black churches are more politically active and this, if applied equally, assuming no scandals and not a smidgeon of corruption, would hurt them more because you are defending it.
This is about free speech and freedom to practice whatever religion you want. It's one of the founding principals this country was founded on. If you can't see the dangers, and if you see all of this as progress you cannot be helped.
DOJ and black churches. Whites not afforded same treatment

I'm not acknowledging black churches are more politically active. I'm acknowledging complaints I've seen on this board re this...which is why I said one would think conservatives would favor this.
And your link and title don't add up. Churches, white or black, can seek advice as to how far they can go without breaking the law. There's no conspiracy here.
As for "the dangers", it's the law and has been the law. Nothing has changed except the IRS has agreed to move toward enforcing it.
Nothing stops a church or an organization from campaigning. The IRS cannot stop anyone from campaigning. But if you campaign for candidates when you applied for tax exempt status claiming you would not do so, it's a bit disingenuous to claim your rights are being violated.
