Who's seen Terry Gilliam's Brazil?

Don't know why It took me so long to see this as I've been a Gilliam fan for a long time, but I finally checked it out.
Not my favorite of his films (that'd be Fisher King), but it was interesting to say the least. Further viewings needed.

Everyone. Welcome to the party.

People who watched it because they were tripping and heard it was a really cool tripping movie probably missed 90% of it.
Love The. Fisher King, but for sentimental reasons, my favorite has always been Time Bandits. The ending of the LEGO movie reminded me a bit of it.

Yes, Time Bandits is fun. I believe Gilliam has said that TB, Brazil and Baron Munchausen were his trilogy about life. TB is as a child, Brazil is mid life and BM is about growing old.
I have only seen Brazil once, but I'd have to put it third as far as favorites in this set.
Still a very intriguing movie though.

Time Bandits has one of the cruelest out of the blue endings.

Time Bandits is my favorite of his films, but Brazil is a close #2.

And like you knew they would, they did. What a wonderful and bitingly true statement.

I honestly believe that almost no movie studio today, would allow them to film that ending.
Test audiences would be WTF??? So they would force them to end the movie before that scene.

His best film. I think you can still get the edition with both versions so you can see how the studios destroyed his film.

Yeah, I got the criterion edition. Dunno if I will bother the studio version. Why bother? I think I can figure out how they 'hollywoodized' the ending anyway.
Saw it two days ago, still thinking about it today. Guess it got to me more than I first realized. I'll be watching it again soon.

Loved TB.
You're right, that ending would probably never make it these days.

It's not just the ending, you can see how important editing is to a film by their butcher job. Really, its a film class in a box.
Posted on 7/31/14 at 2:09 pm to Baloo
All right, I'll check it out. But not until I've seen Gilliam's preferred version at least one more time.
Posted on 7/31/14 at 2:12 pm to Baloo
Wait what? Who butchered what with the who now? I've never seen the other version, but the storyline was always secondary for me anyway. I like the crushing satire.
shite, I need to go see the other version immediately. Thanks Baloo.

Do you have the 27B-6 in triplicate?
Posted on 7/31/14 at 3:00 pm to UL-SabanRival
There's a documentary about it. It's pretty interesting, the fight over the move - the studio essentially made their own edit of Brazil over Gilliam's objections, and it is terrible. It really shows the value of a director and a coherent vision.

Wait, which ending is the one where

Do you remember the name of the doc? Google is giving me a shitstorm of different hits.

I would guess this is the non-Gilliam approved version since I've heard the studio version gave the movie a 'happy ending.'
But, really, I have very little desire to see what happens when some exec takes apart a picture to make it fit his 'vision.'
If you've only seen the best cut, why mess with the inferior one?
