After interleague play alot of luster was lost
Huh? So what? By ANY yardstick it's been a huge success...attendence wise and ratings wise.
Did it take some luster off the All Star game and World Series?
Perhaps but interleague play was going to happen no matter who the comissioner was. Just way too much revenue generated and both the owners and players are ALL about revenue.
Can't disagree about the new All Star format though.

No doubt it was a ratings success, short term. But long term I credit it as one of the factor that is causing declining interest in baseball.
One of the greatest draws in baseball was that it was the only major pro sport in the US where the All-Star game and Championship had a real sense of intrigue to it.
Because of no inter-league play there was always buildup and drama going into those events. It made the World series must watch TV. There was always debate about which team was better in each each league due to this. Once inter-league play started it tore apart what was one of the bigger draws to the World Series.
As a result the game has suffered and the younger generations don't have that same draw and intrigue from baseball and it has hurt the popularity for the sport.
From a business sense, it was the right move. From the perspective of pure baseball and long term interest in the sport I believe it was the absolute wrong move.
