Udinese has done this for years whenever it qualifies for a European competition.

It continuously buys low for emerging South American and African talent, and then sells high to super clubs. Then Udinese, still very much a provincial team, effectively fields youth teams + Di Natale in early round Europa League fixtures. The Udinese management realized that it could make more from transfers, than it could from advancing in the Europa League.

It's become pretty apparent when the Italian UEFA coefficient dropped so much over the past few years, despite AC Milan, Inter, Juve and even Fiorentina doing quite well in the competition.
