if you have a trade to make to get you to the finals and maybe win a ring, you make that trade, not hold onto the unproven #1 pick in the draft...
and you make that trade bc other teams might beat you to the punch

There's going to be people nervous about trading the #1 pick in a great class, you don't want to end up on one of those "worst trades" lists in 20 years.
Even if Wiggins becomes the greatest player of all time in a few years the only way it would become one of those "worst trades" is if Kevin Love gets an injury that ruins his career.
It isn't like they are trading Wiggins for someone like Dwayne Wade or someone at the end of their career. They are trading for a bona fied top 10 player that is only 25 years old.

Any GM that thinks like this won't be a GM for long. Do you make decisions in your life like this?

It's the short game vs the long game. With Love you're very good immediately, though not as good as Miami in 2011. They'd be #3 in the East. I would not put them as the favorite to win it all. That team cannot beat SAS, OKC, or even the LAC in my opinion. They don't have anyone besides LBJ that knows how to play D at a championship caliber level.
I suppose Chris Paul and Doc Rivers can protest and that would take them out of the mix. And the SAS could have this precipitous drop off due to age. I don't know what could stop OKC in that case besides injury. I just think a lot would have to go right for the Love deal to pay off immediately, which is the entire appeal of it all.
I wouldn't be disappointed if the trade didn't happen. Frankly Lebron winning with their current cast makes for the better narrative anyway.
I say this believing the trade will absolutely happen. I just don't think the results will match the storybook script like a lot of others believe it will.

This trade will happen because it's a good deal for both teams. The Timberwolves are going to lose Love next year anyway and I'm sure the Cavs are just waiting for Minn to cave into lesser demands.

See, were we saying this about Miami in 2011? There was no maybe. The championships were inevitable.

that was back when you could count on DWade... Bron started there with Wade and Bosh
now this trade is to get his Bosh to go along with Kyrie Irving... you fill in the rest later

Love dropped out of the World Cup due to his uncertainty with the Wolves, which I don't get at all.

What's difficult about the trade is the salary cap.
If they trade for love and then resign him next year they are locked in with him at 22+ kyrie at 15+ and LeBron at 21+ for the next 5 years.
This isn't to bad since kyrie and love are still young but like I said. If they do the trade they are stuck with no room for 5 years.
If they keep the young guys who are still on their rookie contracts they have more room to add better role players while also hoping they can progress into stars.
One gives you an all star big 3 and problems with getting solid role players in the future.
One gives you two all star starters and better role players and a better chance of enhancing your roster if things don't work out.
I have mixed emotions about what I think is best for the long run but for the short term obviously getting love is the best.
If they can somehow get him without giving up wiggins then they are set for sure.
Idk about how good Bennett will be but I can see Wiggins being a Paul George type of guy in a couple of years but who knows

Bron is on 2 year deal with the salary cap supposedly going WAY up with the new TV deal

If it goes up to 85 mill, as predicted, then it's obviously a better situation but after that happens there will most likely be another lockout the next year so who knows what's gonna happen
If it does go up to 85 mill LeBron will sign a deal north of 5 years/28 mill I would assume.

Irving is nowhere near the player Wade was in 2011.
