There are plenty of countries that would be much less hostile and less expensive to colonize than Israel.
Please don't tell me about peaceful Ethiopia that many have suggested as a homeland for Jews. I'm sure the millions of inhabitants would have been very welcoming of a few million Jews being settled amongst them. Then there was the issue of Ethiopia being a landlocked country until the U.N. decided to make Eritrea part of Ethiopia in 1952. (Imagine that, the U.N. deciding international borders in 1952 without regard to the sentiments of the inhabitants?) The Muslims of Eritrea were not to pleased with this.
