How is a wedding with free booze and free food and the game on any different than having a bunch of friends over to your house to drink, eat, and watch the game on TV?

People go to road games.

We don't play on the east sites for 10+ years

By all means, if you have tickets to away games definitely go. I'm talking about the lame asses that don't go to away games, came to the wedding, and then said "Oh, I have to get home to catch the rest of the game" when it is on 2 tvs 50 feet away from where they were currently standing telling me they had to leave to watch the game. I'm also talking about those that used the game as an excuse and didn't come at all and didn't go to the game either because they wanted to watch the game.

To say you don't want to miss the game that's on tv when it is going to be on tv at the reception where you can watch it in a group setting and enjoy the party/tailgating atmosphere of a watch party....just man up and say you don't want to come. I'd have much more respect for that than to find a paper thin excuse like you can't miss the game.

Now, all bets are off if it is a stuffy wedding with no game on tv and you truly would miss the game...then go ahead and use it for an excuse. It's at that point where you are showing your level of friendship to the wedding party.

To your point about the trip frequency, I had one friend come to the wedding that did have tickets to the game and had planned to go before we set the date. He chose to cancel his plans and come to the wedding even though I urged him to go to the game because of the time between trips.
