We went about 4 years ago in July. I think it's worth the drive for sure. It was one of the most beautiful places! We drove up the mountain to Mystic Lake...didn't do any hiking, just walked around the lake area. There were trails though. There was also still plenty of snow on the ground.

Also, I don't remember it being 3 hours. I think it's closer to 2.
