They are so environmentally conscience.

Are they supposed to keep every hard drive, every hard record, every media storage device until the end of time?
I, for one, transfer important info from my old, obsolete hard drive, and transfer it to my new hard drive when I get a new computer. I then destroy the old hard drive and move on with my life.

The IRS only does this when they get a congressional subpoena. It wouldn't be a problem, except they don't do:

And they don't do that for a very good reason.
See the issue, now?

They make us keep stuff 7 years.
Plus, while they are Congressional and Justice Department investigation common damn sense would dictate that maybe they needed to hang onto those a little while longer.

Ours range from 7-15 years, with a few exceptions that we must hold onto forever. However, not everything we do is considered "official record" and needs not be maintained.

Don't they use servers with back up servers for things like system wide emails and record keeping?
What do individual hard drives have to do with anything?

The Internal Revenue Service solicitation for “media destruction” services reflects an otherwise routine job to protect sensitive taxpayer information, but it was made while the agency’s record destruction practices remain under a sharp congressional spotlight.

Man, they have a lot of shitty computers.
All computers go shitty in about 3-4 years.

So using that theory (which SHOULD be the correct one btw) getting Lerner's emails should just be a formality, no?

The appropriate disposal method for computers no longer used (specifally hard drives) is destruction...particularly those with sensitive information.
So basically they're not sayin', but they're just sayin'. Absolute garbage.
Stop reading partisan media. You're deliberately misinforming yourself for the joy of outrage.
