Try get golf ready. A series of lessons with a pro for $99.

It's a site. They hook you up with somebody in your area.
Looks like a good deal.

He's just starting out. Golftec in a few months would be good.

Wife actually refers to golf as my mistress. This is probably the smartest thing you've ever posted.

I played as well but always played golf growing up. The swings are similar but getting the "baseball out of it" is not easy. Proper repetition and gaining new muscle memory will be your biggest obstacle if baseball is all you've known.
Hockey players and pitchers are good golfers for a reason.

Don't underestimate equipment. There are some really good options out there that can improve your game. i.e "game improvement" irons and woods.
What are you swinging now?
Eta: getting fitted for whatever you're swinging would be advisable

Oh I'm not, but I gotta make sure I'm committed before I go drop serious cash on some. I got some off a deal of the day site a few years back to go play in a scramble. I think they're wilsons. Lol, seriously, I think I paid $130 for them and it included a bag!

Gotcha. I'll be waiting for your thread on new club advice in the weeks to come.

Go putt. It's free and it's what costs most people who are just starting out to play the most strokes on the course. The more you chip and putt the better your touch will be around the greens and the better you will score. Listen to all the other advice you get as well. Most pros know what they are talking about and should help your game tremendously.

i give people this advice all the time that ask me 'what do i need to do' when they start playing, but most don't ... this is a piece of advice from a guy who helped nicklaus in late '79 when he retooled his swing a bit and won 2 majors in '80 ...
buy a heavy, wooden handled broom and swing it 100 times a day ... has enough weight to train muscle memory, grow the ones you need, and to show you, to some degree, when/how to shift weight to keep control ...
and buy hogan's book ... larry nelson didn't play a single round of golf till he was 21 ... broke 100 the first time, bought the book, broke 70 9 months later, and eventually won 3 majors and several tournaments ...

That's great advice. I took the game up at probably 23-24yrs old and the first thing I did was take lessons from a local pro. I believe it prevented me from developing any seriously bad habits and poor muscle memory.
When I finally took to the course I was shooting low 100's....102, 109, 110. Didn't take very long to break into the 90's. If I would have used Dawgsontop34's advice I believe I would've gotten better even faster.
