I personally have never seen a hunting show where they shot and animal with a rifle and just watche it walk off. I've seen them watch them run off waiting for it to go down. I quit spraying a wall of lead at deer when I was 16. Maybe these guys have faith in their shot placement and equipment and know the deer will go down

and making a 2nd shot are not the same thing. not trying to get in a pissing match here, but there are humane reasons for making that 2nd finish off shot.

Im guess you're referring to shooting a deer in the front shoulder and the meat that is wasted by the shot. I just trim around the bullet hole. You're foolish if you think a bullet hole wastes meat and then try to compare that to leaving both neck roasts.

That's still a lot of wasted meat, especially on the exit side. Hence trying to go for kneck shots. If you waste the neck with the shot, you still walk away with more meat.

Good point, i'm not that consistent of a shot. But I still prefer a clean kill/clean miss. I'm lazy as frick and don't feel like tracking deer.

How many people eat kneck meat? Is it good for stews?

Brown some onions, rub neck with olive oil and season, brown neck and cover with onions in a pot with a little water and cook a few hours in oven. Will fall off bone and makes a great roast IMO.

Damn that sounds good. Have to try it sometime. Usually just grind it for breakfast sausage.

If I can get it in the crosshairs and it's not dead, there's another one coming his way.

You don't get shite of you don't find him

It really is a great roast. One of the guys at the camp always cooks these. Same way I mention but for the last two hours he sprinkles a package of brown gravy mix on the neck. Really awesome!

I have crosshairs on it and safety off.

If I think it's either suffering or going to get up, I shoot it again.

Because 90% of those shows are terrible.

They have it on camera and a guide right there. I guess they figure they'll find it eventually.

0% chance it's to preserve the meat. I doubt most of those guys eat their deer.
