Parents saw it yesterday and said they both liked it but didn't get all the hype that some are calling it a top 10 of all time

This is my exact sentiment. The premise and execution was excellent, and the audience grows a genuine connection to the boy and his father. The lack of plot is what kept me from loving the movie. That's why I was ultimately disappointed, as I was expecting some all time masterpiece.

Its kind of like a fictional documentary, as the parents aren't real but some of the stuff was drawn from the actor's real teen experiences. In a previous thread someone called it hoop dreams for white people. For what it's worth, I enjoyed hoop dreams a lot more.
