You can convert a saiga for more like $150 to $200. It's not the end of the world for the AK market but the saigas were a pretty good quality rifle for the price considering you got a genuine Russian receiver and cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel. That's why arsenal and many other companies used them as the base for their rifle builds.

Geetee, I know that you can do it yourself pretty cheap but I was talking about a full, all out conversion.
