re: Why do people think it is impossible to have a good offense with a freshmen QB?

you are correct but they also have an extra year of studying the playbook and actually practicing against top athletes...Im Sorry but Freshman and Redshirt Freshman there is a big gap between the two when considering which one you should start or not

Well no. You should start the better QB. Who gives a shite how old he is if he is a better football player?

Harris was here throughout the Spring and got to work with the players, coaches the play book and then had the advantage of taking away things to work on for the summer before returning for fall practice.

I think the best qb should play, no matter the age, experience etc
I think harris is and will be a better option at QB than jennings, but i'm rooting for jennings to obviously do well too.

Agreed.

Don't know about this yet. I will be 100% confident that Cam Cameron will have the better football player leading his offense in 2014.

No doubt about this as well.

We could also look at this situation through Jennings as well. He basically has the same experience and amount of practice as a redshirt freshman would.

yes and no. he's got a full game against a big ten team and 2 series against a bad SEC team that he made some really great throws against in those 2 drives.

Jennings played last year. He finished a game at the end of the season and started and finished a bowl game on the road against a good defense. A redshirt cannot do that. Jennings certainly has more experience than a redshirt would have.

"basically" being the operative word there. It's not a significant amount of experience more than a redshirt freshman would have earned.
I am well aware what happened the last two games of the season last year, I'm just saying that that experience would not give him an edge over a redshirt freshmen. No one can really say "Jennings is much more experienced"

I would consider playing significantly in 2 games at the end of the season to be a significant amount more experience than a redshirt freshman would have. Playing in a game is pretty invaluable in terms of the coaching staff really being able to see what a kid can do.

I agree I'm just saying its not a significant amount MORE than a redshirt freshman would have.
Let's say hypothetically you put in a redshirt freshman in the last drive against Wisconsin and then let him play the whole game against Sam Houston. Now he would technically have the same experience as Jennings and it only would have taken 2 weeks.

and what he can't

Except he wouldn't because Jennings got to play in those games 7 months ago. He got to then work with Cam and the rest of the offense throughout the entire Spring and, in your situation, the fall leading up to week 1, based on the performance and mistakes that were seen in those 2 games.
ETA: Realize that I am NOT saying Jennings is better because of this. I simply said he has more experience based on this. Again, I am 100% confident in the players the coaches decide to roll out there.

jennings has more game experience (a game and 2 drives of another) and college football experience (2013 spring/fall practices, 2014 spring practice) that much is true, but I don't think he's as talented as harris.

I would tend to agree with this. I don't think anyone can deny that Harris' raw tools and ability to play football are better than Jennings'. Let's hope it can all translate to game play.

rewatching the spring game, you would think jennings would have more awareness being in the system longer... but man... those sacks... those interceptions...
he made some decent throws, but nothing really impressive at all. he was extra impressive against arkansas in that final drive.

Yeah, when I watched the Arkansas game I thought he was the real deal. He made a couple of very good in throws in that pressure packed situation to lead LSU to a win. Then the bowl game and a poor spring game kind of have me second guessing that. I really hope he can pull it together and become what he looked like in the Arkansas game. It would be nice to have 2 viable options at QB.

4 words . . .
Speed Of The Game
It doesn't slow down for new guys until they get much more experienced.

It's difficult for a freshman quarterback to win the Heisman and lead their team to a National Championship? Ya don't say?
That doesn't preclude a team that is loaded up with talent like LSU from being able to have a good offense.
All I'm saying is that those guys are closer to the exception than the rule. In stuff like this people love to point to guys who have beaten the odds or performed better than expected, but the fact is most freshman QB's struggle, regardless of what a few elite guys have done in the recent past.
Also, all of those offenses were spread/read offenses where the QB only had to make a couple of decisions, with FSU's being the closest to a pro style offense I suppose. I'm sure Cam will come up with an offense our QB will be able to handle and execute, but just because a few exceptions have come around recently doesn't mean we should expect similar results

Fair enough. Not one person said anything about expecting anything though. I simply said it does not preclude LSU from having a formidable offense in 2014.

No, it doesn't. It's a fricking sophomore with an extra year of eligibility if they get hurt/suck.
