The two are too closely intertwined to do anything but imo. Saban left the program in tremendous shape for whoever followed him. Take away the hypotheticals and go strictly by the facts then its clearly Saban. He's the one that resurrected the program, the one that brought LSU it's first natty in 40+ years.
My point is that currently it's Saban, but LM is right there with him and certainly could overtake him for this distinction.
