How does Real plan on playing all of these guys? James is a great player but I don't think he's athletic enough to be a winger. He doesn't seem like a false 9 either. Kroos also plays up the middle. Same with Modric.

He played out wide right for Monaco, but I don't know. I'd have to see it. Ancelotti seems to be pretty obsessed with balance, so it would complicate things.

Well, any false 9 for Real Madrid is going to be less false 9 and more strike partner for Ronaldo.
Ultimately, I honestly have no idea. I've given up trying to make sense of it until the full squad is together. Even then, Ancelotti spent all of last preseason trying to make a 4-4-2 work, shelved it, and brought it back in games that mattered. Might not really know until transfer season is over.
