I'm not from BR so the only thing I know I have read as I've gotten older. That said, around the same time another major serial killer, BTK, was becoming active again here in Wichita. It scared the shite out of everyone, especially women, and being a little younger, I didn't quite understand the seriousness of it. I imagine BR and DTL was fairly similar.
