Now we finally get on a topic I know something about. I was a State Senator for 8 years and served on the Highway Committee that did the highway projects. The problem is the gasoline tax that funds the projects were diverted to Liberal Democratic projects and away from highways. The news media will not report this and Obama will never admit it. Example, funds were moved from highway construction to "Nature Trails" for bird watching, funds moved to inner city rail and bus transportation which is a city responsibility, rail travel in California and northern states got money, money to subsidize city bus fees for inner cities, funds for the political appointees in the Transportation Dept. from the Unions, mostly Teamsters, money to pay for Democratic campaign workers put in the Dept. of Transportation after a 4 year election plus retirement and group insurance, money for local gov't projects were hugh in a Democratic term. It became a slush fund for non-highway projects like the Obama stimulus program in 2008,the same type thing. There is enough money for highways if it spent only on highways ,not other things. We do NOT need to add to the gas tax, just spend 100% of it on highways. 40% is wasted,i looked last year out of curiosity and saw where 40% of the gas tax was spend on political projects ,not highways. We stopped that in the 80's under Reagan, but not under Obama. I was on the Committee and worked face to face with Reagan two whole days on it, with about 100 of us in a meeting.
