Yes. This goes back to my argument about the D's being better at politics.

Depends, and I would also say its regional. I went to an elite midwest private school that was very liberal leaning. Something tells me Ole Miss wouldn't quite be the same way.

Depends on what graduate field of study, but by this point your training is so specialized, there isn't as much room for general discussion regarding politics in the nation, unless its policies that directly affect your field (health care discussion in med schools for example).
Just my 2 cents.

My (very limited) experience at LSU as an undergraduate nearly thirty years ago. I was a bit older than your average student (having served in the military right after high school). Was in the process of applying for an Army ROTC scholarship and was taking several freshman level classes. Three immediately come to mind;
Introduction to US Government - First lecture is a diatribe about how wealthy landowners created the United States solely for their own profit (easy drop).
History of Western Civilization - First lecture is a diatribe on how everything that is wrong with Western Civilization is the fault of the Roman Catholic Church (easy drop).
Introduction to Political Thought - Awesome class where the professor told us straight up you would not be able to determine his political thought. Made you fight tooth and nail to defend your political positions. The reason I eventually chose Political Science as my undergraduate. Wish I could remember the name of this professor. He was awesome.
