Gotcha. Well, as far as the legality goes, I would think she is not legally obligated to reimburse them for their loss unless she signed some contract stating such when she was hired. Which I seriously doubt.

Pretty sure what's really going on here is the owners are trying to work this deal under the table with nothing in writing. She's talking to them about only being liable for the wholesale value of the cigs - not the retail $1300. I'll be talking to her again next few days. Will stress to her the importance of getting this all in writing.
