Need help looking for a laptop for my mother

So my mom's other laptop is about to crap out. It could be fixed but by the time the money is spent she could have gotten something better. The battle for me is that she thinks she needs a super computer when all she needs is a good hard drive and Microsoft Office. She still thinks she needs a laptop with a tuner (that she never used) when I have her set up with an ipad2 and apple tv.
To the point, if you know of any deals out there in the $300-400 range I'd appreciate it if you would link them here. I'm at work and can't start the leg work and thought you guys might have come across something.

I second that. Have ordered or helped folks order 6 laptops from there in past couple years.

What model is her current laptop and what are the "crapping out" symptoms? I've "revived" my dad's laptop and others by simply replacing the hard drive with an SSD, upping the RAM from 1GB to 4GB, and installing Windows 7. Granted, while hard drive performance/clutter is the top reason for laptops seemingly crapping out, there could be other issues -- needs a new battery or power adapter, dead fan/overheating/dust buildup, etc.
If she's only using MS Office and Interwebs, a $400 laptop with a 5400 rpm hard drive will run just like the day she bought her previous laptop.
If reviving the existing laptop isn't an option, my recommendation would be first to purchase one of these:
Lenovo IdeaPad G510 (59406750) Notebook Intel Pentium 3550M (2.30GHz) 4GB Memory 500GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 4000 15.6" Windows 8.1 for $339.99
ASUS D450CA-AH21 Notebook Intel Pentium 2117U (1.80GHz) 4GB Memory 320GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 14.0" Windows 8 64-bit for $349.00
DELL Inspiron i15RV-954BLK Notebook Intel Pentium 2127U (1.90GHz) 4GB Memory 500GB HDD Intel HD Graphics 15.6" Windows 8.1 for $349.99
HP Pavilion 2000-2d80NR Notebook AMD E2-Series AMD E2-3000 1.65GHz 4GB Memory 500GB HDD AMD Radeon HD 8280 15.6" Windows 8.1 for $379.99
and swap out the slow hard drive and reinstall Windows and all the drivers on this:
PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) for $84.99 after $20 rebate.
I feel like the only reason we don't see many low-end laptops with SSDs is that people would purchase them less often. My guess is that sub-$400 laptop customers are predominantly the least tech-savvy users and the ones most likely to clutter the shite out of their HDDs and unknowingly install useless programs just so they can view the video that their friend shared via a Facebook virus, eventually declaring the laptop a loss and buy a new one when they are sick of waiting 10 minutes for Windows to start and the hour-glass to go away, and another 5 minutes for IE to launch. SSDs, on the other hand, can suffer foolish browsing/maintenance habits for much longer and still run pretty fast, provided other system resources are in check.

Clutter is definitely a big part of it but I think this laptop is approaching ten years old. She has so much clutter that she is having trouble putting files on an external hard drive. She has already upgraded the RAM once. I'm sure I could take it and revive it but I think the money spent will not be much less than some of the laptops that you have listed.
