Silver Moon Cafe?

When my husband and I went to LSU in the mid-1990s, there used to be a "restaurant" behind the train tracks near Brightside called the Silver Moon Cafe. It was a ramshackle building that looked run-down, but the food was damn good. There were few choices, but everything they served was delicious. For $6, you could get a plate lunch with a sweet tea.

Does anyone know if that place is still there?

Also, we used to get pressed poboys at a convenience store called "AM Mart." Those things were amazing. Is that store still there, and so they still serve fantastic poboys?

I was eating at both places in the mid 80's. Loved them both. Cory was great at building his business with 7.99 cases of Busch Light, and C-Bell with her 3.99 meat and two side plate lunches. They truly catered to the college student, but unfortunately that didn't make business owners rich in the 80's.

Silver Moon closed years ago, but AM Mart is still open and a favorite of college students.

"Mama" has a cookbook out now, but I haven't picked it up and tried it. LINK

I'll have to pick up her cookbook. My husband and I have many fond memories of eating her delicious food.

Something tells me that--even if I get that cookbook and follow it perfectly--any recipes I make won't be quite at good as Mama Seabell's, though.

Still eat lunch at Mama's house on occasion. She gave me am advance copy of her cookbook before it was out for sale-I asked how authentic it was, given that none of the recipes call for lard. She said "baby, those dishes are cooked with love, not lard". We both had a good laugh over that. She's a sweet lady, just don't mention our mayor to her if your ears are sensitive.

Hi there - i'm working with a few other former LSU students from different decades ... to help Mama Seabell publish a new cookbook! You can preorder here if you're interested.

We plan to have a book launch party with Mama once it's released. https://silvermooncookbook.com/

I remember both Silver Moon locations well. I started LSU in 96. It was more food than you could eat for like $5. Good Southern soul food.

I was out that way maybe 2 years ago around lunch and got an AM Mart cajun turkey and pepperjack. Still excellent.

As others have said SM has been gone for a while but Am Mart is still there. I have boys at LSU and they still drive out there for the sandwiches.
