I don't get all the fake outrage about this Marine, he was off duty and did something illegal and is being punished for it.

It was an honest mistake, that's why. You think a Marine or anyone else for that matter would intentionally try to cross the border into Mexico with three guns? No criminal intent at all.

We trade prisoners out of Gitmo for an alleged deserter. Why can't this Marine get a little consideration from our Govt. for making a wrong turn?

You have no idea if it was an honest mistake or not. I do know there are very large signs at every border crossing that says firearms can not be transported to Mexico

Yes, I think marines are capable of committing crimes and have many times before

Are you seriously equating being jailed by the Mexican government to being held by Al Qaeda?

He would be in jail if he entered several US states and multiple US cities with his weapons, why should he get a free pass to do this in a foreign country.

This marine is either one of the stupidest humans alive or a complete liar, I am not sure which but it is one or the other. It is impossible to "accidently" cross an international border in a vehicle. It is also beyond fricking stupid to be transporting these weapons much less "forget" they are in your parked vehicle. Looking at the facts he was more likely going to Mexico to sell the guns than guilty of making a honest mistake.

He has admitted to breaking A LOT of firearm laws in California, I wonder if he will be charged when he gets back.

That has been called into doubt.

There are dumbasses in this world.

First he's just a guy that happens to be a marine who was not acting in his capacity as a marine at the time. Secondly, his situation isn't analogous to the Bergdahl situation, they're not related. Thirdly, the US gov is speaking with the Mexican gov about this situation.
