Those are good stories to hear. While I had bouts with depression, I have not been on any anti-depressants for many years now.

I am one of the lucky ones. What should have killed me is alcohol. Being sober for 18 years plus has been a good thing for me. I am sure that had I continued to drink the way I did in the past I would be dead.

I did a couple of antidepressants for roughly five years and finally was able to get off of them this last January. I still have an occasional rough day, but seem to be able to handle things a little better when those times happen.

I had a hell of a drinking habit at one point myself and actually went for the gut rot shite (K & B Vodka). Oddly, after my internist met my mother, he shut the door and sat down with me and advised that if I wanted to live I needed to move to another town as soon as possible. Best medical advice I ever got.

As crazy as it may sound, the one who probably kept me out of the grave was my then wife. We split up after 27 years so I guess the relationship had essentially run its course. However, in spite of what happened between the two of us there are things that she did for me and some good times for which I will always be grateful.
