Yep. I should be dead. I was lucky to have a lot of people who cared about me
Crazy assed thing. I had one secretary who was bi-polar depressive. Things really started going downhill after her father died and her husband divorced her. She was faithful in taking her meds, but she was simply one of those who was a major challenge in finding the right cocktail that worked. I came into her office one afternoon and she was just sitting there crying why she was so messed up and could get better. Even though I was her supervisor, I also tried to be something between a friend and a clinician in keeping an eye on her. She had managed to accumulate 20 years of service, which vested her in retirement. One afternoon, she called me and told me she was about to take an overdose and end it. By the time she had got to me, she had already taken the pills. I put her in my vehicle and went to a nearby private hospital to admit her on the record for psychiatric care, and then ran her to a nearby med-surg hospital to get her stomach pumped. I eventually arranged for her to take a full disability retirement, which also kept her hospitalization intact. Fifteen years later, I heard from her. She had remarried, and fixed herself back up to where she was cute as a June bug. It did me a lot of good to hear that she had finally started experiencing happiness.

Those are good stories to hear. While I had bouts with depression, I have not been on any anti-depressants for many years now.
I am one of the lucky ones. What should have killed me is alcohol. Being sober for 18 years plus has been a good thing for me. I am sure that had I continued to drink the way I did in the past I would be dead.
