Stolen gun question

I purchased a .22 rifle about 3 weeks ago. It was on sale and I'm on a gun hoarding kick right now, so I got it, just for the hell of it. I recently moved and it disappeared. I've only had it a few weeks. I've never had the chance to shoot it. I have torn this house apart. It was never taken out of the box.
How screwed am I? I know there is no gun registration in LA, but it is in my name. Should I file a report just to have it on record?
I know that I probably should have called the cops before coming here and blah blah, but any help is appreciated.

I'd file a report for sure, good luck getting it back though.

It's the only thing missing?
Are there any signs you've been burglarized?
If not I'd say you left it/ put it somewhere and forgot it.

After buying it 3 wks ago, I surely hope not, if so he shouldn't own one.

Family. And my ignorant, now ex, boyfriend. I have an idea of who may have taken it, but I have no proof. Do I call the cops and possibly falsely accuse someone of taking it?
I'm not so worried about the gun, as I'll just get another. I'm concerned with someone having a rifle that's in my name.
I know, I'm an idiot. I just don't want to file a report and accuse someone of something that they may not have done.
I have no way of ever proving who took it.

Well he didn't specify that he was burglarized. He didn't say he thought the movers took it. Nothing else is missing apparently. Why would it be stolen? Who would've taken it?

I know I didn't leave it / put it somewhere. It's gone.
So, I guess I should report it, just to cover my arse, correct?
And I don't expect to get it back. Hell, it was about $160. I'm not worried about getting it back. I'm worried about something happening with it. If it were a handgun, I would be freaking out.

*She
My .380 and 9mm are still here. Why steal a cheap rifle? That's what I don't get.
Eta: no sign that I was burglarized. I guess if I were, it would be the easiest to find, as it was still in the box. I keep the handguns hidden well. One is always on me and the 9mm was on me during the move.

Well now that you've acknowledged that there was someone who could've taken it, the situation changes.
Yes, I'd at least make a call to the local PD and make them aware of the situation. Doubt they'll pursue it but at least you're on record as having notified them. Sorry for your drama.

Thanks. That is what I wanted to know.
Better to have it on record in the event that something goes wrong. I'll file a report.

Simple opportunity, it mostly is. Report it.

Will the cops come to my new condo and make a big scene? Or can I just call or go down to the station and report it?

Sorry for the gender confusion
I don't get why they'd take a cheap common rifle either which is why I thought it may be lost.
Can you call the other person and casually inquire as to the rifles whereabouts? May let them know you know something is up as well.

I can't imagine 5-0 making a big deal about this. But you can always go down there and avoid a possible scene.

Probably what I will do.

I know. And they will probably confiscate my shite when they see that I'm hoarding ammo as well.
