The forum consensus?
The consensus is that there is no consensus. There are people who highly recommend each one. Heller is supposed to be pretty good, no group work. Meeks is regularly touted as "the very best professor in the program". Seriously, he's said to be the best even more often than Shaughnessy, which really piqued my interest. Unfortunately, it didn't work out for my schedule. Of course, there are also a number of complaints about the group work in his class, so you need to take the good with a potential bad.
I am currently in McLaughlin, and while it's certainly not a walk in the park, the workload is nicely balanced throughout the program. No large paper or group work. Weekly 3 paragraph paper, weekly quiz on 1-2 chapters at a time, one discussion post by Tuesday (which isn't much time) and an additional 2 response posts made on different days. There is no guidance in regards to word count on any assignment, so you do run the risk of losing points for answers that are too brief, or wasting extra time on more work than you needed to do. You'll never know what's "enough" until you lose points.
No forum, video lectures, supplemental videos, zoom, etc. and grading is pretty slow. She says they will try to get your grade back before the next assignment is due, but it hasn't happened for me so far, so you're in the dark for week 2 at least.
That isn't a knock, it's not a bad class. Do the work and get the grade, just don't expect much interaction. The weekly paper requires you to tie it intimately together with course topic from the current week. This is actually also very helpful to prep you for that topic on the weekly quiz.
Essentially, MADM 760 is the polar opposite of MKT 701 when it comes to instructors. You can't go too wrong with any instructor for MADM, and you can't go too right with any for MKT 701.
