I know this REAL ID thing was a post-9/11 mandate, but what is/was deficient about individual state IDs?

Does the REAL ID have an added layer of security or something?

More power to the fed. Less to the state. Thats the gist of it.

I don't recall everything that LA is lacking. The things I do remember were mainly DMV issues. Screening process for employees and who can be hired, limited access to blank ids by DMV personnel, updated camera/ security systems in DMVs, updated security measures on ID's themselves and, making a database that the Feds can access.

I'm not a supporter of real ID but this is not the way to fight it IMO.

Just like the passport it will have an RFID tag that will leave your personal info up for grabs.
