Army Secretary John McHugh has stripped Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sinclair of two grades, forcing him to retire from service as a lieutenant colonel.
This is the first time the Army has reduced a retiring general officer by two ranks in a decade, according to the service’s announcement Friday.
Sinclair, who in March pleaded guilty to having a three-year affair with a female subordinate, has already received a judge’s reprimand and a $20,000 fine.

Ouch. I followed that case for a while. Kind of seemed like he was being railroaded. Didn't the whole rape thing fall apart at the end when it turned out they were just having an affair.

This was a plea deal I thought? dismiss the rape he pleads to lesser charge and an agreement on sentencing?

Always frick up - never frick down. Why screw around with a service chick anyways? No girl is worth destroying your career.
On a side note, it bothers me that junior people in inappropriate relationships are let off the hook completely in most cases.

Spinoff question that we discuss amongst ourselves in the military community (particularly the spouses);
Should Mrs Sinclair receive half of his benefits at the brigadier general (retired) rate? She is being punished because of her husband's adultery.
